The news soon reached Pharaoh’s palace: “Joseph’s brothers have arrived!” Pharaoh and his officials were all delighted to hear this.
Pharaoh said to Joseph, “Tell your brothers, ‘This is what you must do: Load your pack animals, and hurry back to the land of Canaan. Then get your father and all of your families, and return here to me. I will give you the very best land in Egypt, and you will eat from the best that the land produces.’”
Then Pharaoh said to Joseph, “Tell your brothers, ‘Take wagons from the land of Egypt to carry your little children and your wives, and bring your father here. Don’t worry about your personal belongings, for the best of all the land of Egypt is yours.’” Genesis 45:16-20
(17/365 days of Fear Not)
Have you ever had to make a choice and worried about whether you were making the right one? I know I have, especially when the choice or decision will somehow influence or affect my life.
Has that choice ever included leaving something behind or giving something up?
How uncomfortable does that question make you? Does it cause your heart to beat a little faster? Does it make sweat break out on your brow?
Me? It scares the heck out of me because I’m pretty attached to my stuff, you know? Even the stuff I don’t necessarily love, I’m still attached to. That’s kind of silly, isn’t it?
It’s even sillier if I’m offered something better if I’ll just give up something I have right now.
But, I’m guilty of this. I’m guilty of holding on tightly to something that’s familiar and comfortable and, well, miserable, rather than accepting something new. Something better.
Joseph’s family is in the midst of a famine. A pretty big dry spell.
Pharaoh tells Joseph: Take wagons from the land of Egypt to carry your little children and your wives, and bring your father here. Don’t worry about your personal belongings, for the best of all the land of Egypt is yours.
So, what would you do?
It doesn’t seem like a difficult decision, does it?
But, has God asked you to let go of something to which you are holding on with a firm death-grip? He offers you something more, something better. In fact, He offers you the best. His best.
Are you wavering on a decision because you’re afraid of giving up what’s familiar and comfortable? Are you wavering on a decision because you are afraid to let go of something that is making you miserable?
God is standing before you and offering you something incredible. He’s offering you His best.
You have a choice. Do you want to accept good enough, or do you want to accept something awesome and amazing?
God is the One who put the passion in your heart and the One who designed you and your purpose. And He’s waiting for you to give up the good enough and the familiar for the awesome that only He can provide.
So, what will you do?
What choice will you make?
