Welcome to Day 4 of the Write the Story! writing challenge! Here's to writing the story only you can write.
Today we're talking about music and finding your story's vibe through playlists. Why? Because for me, on the days when I haven't gotten to my keyboard yet, I like to put on a playlist inspired by my story and that, in turn, inspires my story when I finally sit down.
“Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything.”
– Plato
I could not agree more with Plato on his perspective of music. While I also tend to write with music playing, I realize not everyone does that. Still, I think music definitely inspires the imagination and gives wings to my mind. For me, that means I can be in my kitchen making dinner or cleaning up the dishes and still be working on my story by putting on a playlist related to the story I'm writing.
I am all about tapping into my story's rhythm through song lyrics and music beats & structure.
With a carefully curated playlist, I can watch the scenes I'm considering for my next writing session as if they were playing on a movie screen. Maybe that's why I identify with Albert Einstein's idea about living his daydreams in music--I often see my story in terms of music.
If I was not a physicist, I would probably be a musician. I often think in music. I live my daydreams in music.
I see my life in terms of music.
– Albert Einstein
So, if you don't have one, consider creating a playlist filled with the songs that capture the vibes of your story or maybe just the vibe of one of your characters. Let yourself play and have fun.
Today, immerse yourself in the rhythm of your story. And, if you happen to create a playlist, feel free to share it along with your word count in the comments!
Here's to you as you Write the Story! today!
Remember: drop your daily word count in the comments so we can track your daily word count and provide you a final total when we hit November 30.
